Subject: TextQuest 1.7 - text analysis software - released
the new version 1.7 of TextQuest Text Analysis software is now
available. There are some new features and extensions:
- a new input format called sentence format. This allows the automatic
text segmentation of plain text files into grammatical sentences as a
text unit (or unit of analysis). Abbrevations points are recognised, and
a separate file containing possible abbrevations (e.g. Dr. Prof. etc.)
can be extended
- new formulas for readability. The readability analysis now contains 60
readability formulas for English, French, Spanish, German, Dutch,
Danish, and Swedish. The whole module was revised, checking all formulas
in the literature (and detecting many copying errors from the original
sources). The readability module can also be used for one's own writing,
because too long sentence, too long words, or too complex sentences can
be written to an output file for later inspection. The values can be
specified, e.g. sentences with more than 15 words are too long, words
having more than 7 characters are too long etc.
A free test version can be downloaded from http://www.textquest.de/tqe.htm
A note for users in Germany: TextQuest is exhibited at the Deutsche
Soziologentag at the university of Leipzig, October 7th - 11th, first
floor left in the Hörsaalgebäude. Software demonstrations of TextQuest,
TextGrab, SimStat, ConClus, TextAnalyst and PolyAnalyst are possible,
just ask.
