This book constitutes the refereed proceedings of an international workshop on Pattern Detection and Discovery organized by David J. Hand, Richard J. Bolton and Niall M. Adams of the Department of Mathematics, Imperial College, London, UK and funded by the European Science Foundation in September 2002.
