PublicationsFrom: Jesus MenaDate: 5 Jan 2003 Subject: New book: Investigative Data Mining for Security and Criminal Detection This is to announce the publication of the following NEW BOOK:
Both the Federal Bureau of Investigations and the new Department of Homeland Security have identified data mining as a key component in combating crime and terrorism in the 21st century. This is the first book that describes how data mining technologies and techniques can be used for law enforcement and national defense. The book illustrates current and future applications of data mining in homeland security and preventative law enforcement; it shows how to construct predictive models for detecting criminal activity and for the behavioral profiling of perpetrators. The book is geared at law enforcement investigators, system integrator vendors, software developers, information technology security analysts, fraud specialists, and government employees. Case studies are provided illustrating how self-organizing maps have been used to associate unsolved crimes to the modus operandi (MO) of perpetrators, or neural networks for the recognition of the signatures of arson, fraud, system intrusion, and machine learning algorithms for the detection of smugglers and potential terrorists.
A free copy of Chapter 1 can be obtained at http://www.prominer.com
The book is available at all online bookstores or at the publishers website: http://www.bh.com
