Software

Subject: Category systems (dictionaries) now available for TextQuest

One of the most time consuming tasks in computer aided content analysis is the development of a category system (dictionary). Although some of these are well known and could be used, it is often connected with software. TextQuest users can use the following category systems now:

1. Colin Martindale's RID (Regressive Imagery Dictionary) for English and German: 65 categories and 3939 (English) rsp. 6802 (German) entries.

2. Harvard Psychological Dictionary: 83 categories plus combinations, total 105 categorie with 3223 entries.

3. Hamburger kommunikationssoziologisches Wrterbuch (HKW) for German: 99 categories (some are empty) with approx 5000 entries. The original version (March 1973) is currently overhauled to make use of the TextQuest specialities for defining search patterns (e.g. strings at the end and/or in the middle of a word).

All these category systems are now part of the TextQuest distribution excluding test and student licenses. The necessary files for category labels and search patterns are provided and allow an immediate processing with TextQuest (and compatibles like CoAn and Intext).

At last I want to thank the authors for their allowance to use their category systems.
