Subject: Poll Results: US/Canada data miners median income down 2%, more students

The previous KDnuggets poll asked US/Canada data miners: What is your current annual income or status?

Based on 175 votes total, the results are:

26% - student
7% - unemployed
11% - $60,000 or less
17% - 61 to 80
15% - 81 to 100
10% - 101 to 120
14% - over 120

It is unscientific, but interesting to compare these results to 2002 income poll and 2001 income poll.

Income/Status200320022001
student 26% 23% 19%
unemployed 7% 9% 4%
$60,000 or less 11% 9% 18%
61,000 to 80 17% 16% 15%
81,000 to 100 15% 19% 16%
101,000 to 120 10% 11% 12%
over 120,000 14% 13% 15%

We can observe a growth in the number of students, and a small decline in the number of unemployed data miners. There is a small growth in the lowest income ranges and slight decline in the higher income ranges (81 to 120). The highest income range is relatively stable.

The 2003 median income can be estimated at $88,300 which is about a 2% decline from 2002 estimated median income of $90,500.
