MOUNTAIN VIEW, Calif., April 23 /PRNewswire/ -- Iconix Pharmaceuticals, Inc. announced an agreement with Prof. Laurent El Ghaoui of the University of California at Berkeley, to license exclusive rights to new data mining tools for experiments in predictive chemogenomics.

The emerging field of chemogenomics integrates chemistry and genomics, in order to understand the pharmacology and toxicology of drug candidates long before clinical development, which in turn reduces surprises during clinical trials.

The new data mining tools directly address the key challenge in genomic experiments of separating important information from background data, known as experimental 'noise.' Gene expression experiments typically generate huge datasets that contain millions of individual data points. Dr. El Ghaoui developed algorithms and software to facilitate the process of separating and extracting critical information.
