May 31 will be the last day entries will be accepted for the inaugural Science and Engineering Visualization Challenge sponsored by the National Science Foundation (http://www.nsf.gov) and the journal Science (http://www.sciencemag.org/).

Winning selections will be featured in a special section of Science's Sept. 12, 2003, edition and winners will receive an expense-paid trip to the foundation for its "Art of Science Project" exhibit and accompanying lecture.

This new national contest will recognize outstanding achievement by scientists, engineers, and visual information practitioners in the use of visual media to promote understanding of research results.

The contest is open to individual scientists, engineers, visual information practitioners, and scientific teams --including technicians and support team members-- who produce or commission photographs, illustrations, animations, interactive media, video sequences or computer graphics for research.

Entries must have been produced after Jan. 1, 2000, and must be postmarked by May 31, 2003. Contest rules and entry submission instructions are available on the web at www.nsf.gov/od/lpa/events/sevc. Prospective entrants are encouraged to review the contest rules before submitting an entry. Entry forms are available at this web address as well.
