Subject: Poll results: data miners think TIA can be effective, but will erode privacy

The previous poll asked KDnuggets readers their opinion on effectiveness of data mining in TIA and whether the data mining can also preserve privacy.

The low number of votes (only 81 votes) is an indication that surprisingly few data miners are interested in TIA. Those that are interested, usually have strong opinions.

About 47% thought that TIA data mining can be effective, but only 12% thought that it can be effective and preserve privacy. The results were:
12% - Effective, and preserve privacy
20% - Effective, erode privacy, but is worth it
15% - Effective, erode privacy, but not worth it
40% - Ineffective
14% - Don't know about TIA

Here are poll results on TIA effectiveness and privacy, including a number of eloquently expressed their opinions.
