Subject: Poll Results: Data miners against total funding cut off for TIA

The previous KDnuggets Poll asked: Should US Congress cut all finding for TIA?

The low participation rate (only 106 visitors voted), indicates that a relatively small number of people care about this topic. The results, based on those votes are:

  • 35%, Yes, cut all funding
  • 26%, Keep some research funding
  • 39%, Don't cut funding
Not surprisingly, 65% of data miners don't support total funding cut-off.

During this poll period (July 18, 2003), US senate voted unanimously to cut off all the funding for TIA (see elsewhere in this issue). The House version of the bill, passed earlier, imposed advance notification and authorization requirements on the program but did not cut off all the funding. The TIA fate will be determined by a joint House-Senate conference session.

Here are the full results and comments.
