Summary:

The Data Architect will hold primary responsibility for the development of the enterprise data model for Paradigm's Healthcare Informatics system. The Data Architect will apply his/her initiative, drive, information technology and bioscience domain knowledge to the integration of disparate biological data streams to support Paradigm's Healthcare mission in biomarker and biomarker-enabled drug discovery. The Data Architect will work in the design phase of application development and integration to convert business requirements into an application data model which is sustainable as part of the enterprise data model. The Data Architect will provide leadership in the development of the gene and compound hubs comprising the Paradigm Metabolome Dictionary. He/she will design, create, and maintain content databases from third-party vendors. He/she will work closely with the Database Architect to convert applicable model components into the needed specifications for physical database development team and integration engineering. Application and systems developers will use the specification to design and implement the application data architecture to fulfill the data model design.

Location: Research Triangle Park, NC

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Work within an Informatics environment to define and document data transactions needed to fulfill business requirements and build a data model that satisfies those requirements
  • Communicate with development teams and application support groups to discover customer requirements, data transactions, source applications, and target systems
  • Work with the application team to determine location of data and the best possible interface method for integration with other databases and applications; lead the design of the compound and gene hubs for Paradigm
  • Work with biostatisticians and computational biologists to determine algorithmic requirements for discovery applications
  • Determine user needs for third-party content DBs, and design and maintain internal versions of such DBs that fulfill user requirements.
Background Requirements:

Bachelor's Degree (Computer Science or equivalent); Master's degree strongly preferred. Minimum of six years of enterprise data processing experience, including three years of data base administration and/or programming experience, three or more years in a modeling and design capacity, and at least two years in a leadership capacity.

Skills And Abilities:

  • Extensive functional knowledge of relational database and expertise in data modeling/design tools.
  • Demonstrated analytical, decision-making, and verbal communication skills, which include the ability to investigate complex business problems, develop effective recommendations, and resolve problems in a professional and tactful manner.
  • 3-5 years of PL/SQL and Oracle experience
  • 3-5 years Healthcare/Pharma/Biotech experience required
  • Strong communication and active listening skills required
  • Strong user/team orientation required
