Subject: Postdoctoral position in Trinity College, Dublin, Ireland

Applications are invited for the position of Postdoctoral Research Fellow to work on the Knowledge Discovery Project in the Machine Learning Group in Trinity College Dublin. (www.cs.tcd.ie/research_groups/mlg/kdp/)

The appointment will be from 1st October 2004 and will be for two years.

The research will be on one-sided classifiers so the successful candidate should have a PhD in Machine Learning or a closely related area.

'One-sided Cassifiers' is a topic that has been researched in a variety of different guises in recent years. It is the problem of learning in a situation where no (or very few) counterexamples are available. It arises in a variety of different situations, for instance in text classification, fraud detection, medical diagnosis and environmental monitoring. It has been researched under such titles as, semi-supervised learning, one-class classifiers, transductive inference, the class imbalance problem or simply classification in the absence of counterexamples.
