Subject: Winners announced for the UC San Diego/Fair Isaac data mining contest

This contest involved two tasks: a two-class classifier learning problem, and a pattern completion problem. For more information, please visit http://mill.ucsd.edu/

Among UCSD undergraduates, the winner on both tasks is Aleksandr Simma. Alex will be joining the Ph.D. in computer science program at UC Berkeley this fall.

The overall winner on both tasks is Thomas Rebotier, who earned his Ph.D. recently in the Department of Cognitive Science at UCSD.

Alex and Thomas win prizes of $2000 each. Honorable mention and a prize of $500 go to Doug Turnbull, a Ph.D. student in computer science at UCSD.

Congratulations to the winners and to all participants, including those from outside UCSD! Thanks also to Dustin Boswell for excellent work running the contest.

Look for announcements next spring about the 2005 UCSD/Fair Isaac data mining contest.
