Summary:

Work with business managers to evaluate business needs, propose advanced analytical solutions that can deliver measurable results to act on. Present recommendations and findings. Via modeling, analyses, consulting and management of external technical vendors improve Staples marketing efficiencies in managing customer life cycle - acquisition, development, retention and loyalty.

Report to director of modeling and customer analysis. Be a mentor (both technical and business) to modelers and analysts. Investigate, test, and evaluate analytical tools and techniques for modeling team. Develop and implement process and procedures in conjunction with IS department and internal clients to increase efficiency and quality of the analytical process. Automate data processing, modeling, and quality control. Support streamlining of direct marketing circulation, scheduling and tracking of campaign/model development initiatives.

Lead or assist in plan and development of database analytical projects. Prioritize, implement and manage multiple analytical projects adhering to strict timelines and TQM. Provide thought and project leadership for analytical initiatives utilizing resources from Database and IS departments.

Build and implement predictive, statistical models to optimize results of direct marketing campaigns. Be able to construct required data sets, conduct exploratory data analysis, set test and controls, analyze and present back-end results. Require advanced knowledge of computer technologies and mathematical principles. Identify opportunities to apply predictive modeling for significant business gains.

Requirements:

  • Master degree in Statistics or other science field. Education in business or social science is helpful
  • 7+ years' experience in database marketing, direct marketing analysis and/or marketing research analyses. Experience managing technically complex quantitative analysis projects
  • Creative thinker! Must possess strong understanding of business, particularly with regards to applying analytical solutions to solve business problems
  • Effective communication, presentation and writing skills a must
  • Strong interpersonal skills
  • Programming proficiency with SAS language including SAS/Base, SAS/Stat, SAS macro language, CHAID, Knowledge Seeker and SQL
  • Expert in applied statistical techniques: correspondence and cluster analysis, classification and regression trees, CHAID, factor analysis, survival analysis, attrition/retention modeling, experimental design, time series analysis, logit and multinomial logit model estimation
  • Extremely effective at analyzing large quantities of data and presenting it in a simple, insightful, "actionable" summarized document
  • Familiar with Unix and Oracle
  • Previous employment at a database vendor/service bureau or database consulting firm highly preferred
