Subject: Poll Results: Income by Region: US/Canada leads, surprise for second place

The latest poll was an experiment in asking 2 questions at the same time

  • income range or student status in US$
  • the region.
Due to the self-selected nature of the poll, it cannot be considered scientific, and some regions had only a small number of answers reported. Still, we hope that these results are interesting.

Over 200 responses were received, and less than 5% were excluded because only one question was answered. The data for non-student respondents showed that US/Canada had the highest income, with average in US$91,000 - $105,000 range.

The surprising second highest average was for Australia / New Zealand, with 83K - 94K range. The Western European data miners reported significantly lower incomes, with about half of the respondents selecting 31 - 60K range (may be they reported their salary in Euro rather than US$ ?).

West Europe was followed (in decreasing order of income) by Other Asia (Not including China/India), then Africa/Middle East, then East Europe, then Latin America.

Here are full results of 2005 Poll of data miners income by region.
