PEORIA, Ill.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Jan. 26, 2005--Akoya, Inc., the leader in next-generation cost management solutions for direct materials purchasing, announced today that it has joined the Illinois Department of Computer Science Affiliates Program (IDCSA). Based at the University of Illinois in Champaign, Urbana, the IDCSA supports the mutual needs of industry and academia in computer research, development and education. As an affiliate member, Akoya is funding a focused research initiative led by Professor Jiawei Han Ph.D, a renowned authority on data mining principals and algorithms.

Dr. Han has published more than 100 research papers on data mining for leading database journals and has presented at numerous industry conferences. He is also the founder and chief architect of DBMiner, one of the first-generation data mining products. Dr. Han's research for Akoya will investigate data warehouse structures, frequent pattern mining and analytical techniques.
