Job Description
Research Programmer: This entry level research programmer will participate in the development of text mining applications, develop and support library code, and participate in the team's research and development projects. The Text Mining team in Boeing Phantom Works has invented a unique technology called TRUST (Text Representation Using Subspace Transformation) which combines linear algebra, statistics, natural language processing, and high performance computing to solve a wide range of text mining problems. Statistical approaches to Text Mining are also an important thrust. We are looking for a candidate who would like to develop hands-on experience solving large scale text analysis problems in industry and contribute to new developments in the technology. The candidate will provide software application development support and participate in the text mining team in technology development.

Required Skills
Requires proficiency in C/C++ and Java, ability to program on both the MS Windows and UNIX platforms. Must have strong skills in software design and development. Familiarity with information retrieval, text mining, text analysis, basic parsing, basic linear algebra, basic statistics, basic linguistics concepts (e.g. parts of speech), and knowledge-based systems is highly desired. Experience in web-based GUI building, Windows-based GUI building, visualization, high performance computing, and proficiency in Perl and other scripting languages are highly desirable. Requires a team player who is self-motivated and likes a challenging environment. Must be able to communicate with team members, management, and customers effectively. Desire programming experience in Text Mining or Information Retrieval and in software development.

Education
Requires a master's degree in a related field and 10 yrs of experience, or a doctorate and 5 yrs of experience.
