Traffic software from startup Inrix predicts where road bottlenecks will be

A new Bothell startup has raised $6.1 million from two of the country's leading venture capital firms and signed an exclusive agreement to license technology from Microsoft Research that it says will help travelers reduce the amount of time they sit in their cars on congested roadways.

Inrix, which was created 10 months ago by former Microsoft and Expedia executives, plans to use the technology to roll out a national service that allows commuters to access real time traffic data and future traffic patterns on mobile devices, automotive navigation systems and mapping Web sites.
