IBM rescues car parts from data dump

ComputerWeekly.com

IBM Business Consulting Services is offering car manufacturers a data cleanup and component trend analysis service.

The resulting analysis would help mechanics build better components and cars, and ultimately help car makers reduce their warranty costs, said IBM.

The service, carried out at the US-based Parametric Analysis Center, will process huge volumes of data from in-car electronic component tests. IBM will use its data management technologies and data mining techniques and algorithms to analyse the data.

IBM said studies showed that more than a third of car breakdowns were related to electrical or electronics systems, with failures expected to rise as vehicles became increasing complex.

Here is the rest of the story.
