Subject: Seattle, WA: Director - Software Development - Data Warehouse at Amazon.com
The director of Business Analytics will be responsible for leading the
Business Analytics department efforts in integrating data end to end
and consolidating measurement and analysis responsibilities to ensure
accurate, consistent reporting across Amazon.com and its external
partners. This position will have responsibility for several direct
reports and will work closely with a several business teams and
leadership throughout the organization. Critical functions of these
teams will be the ability to deliver business metrics and reporting,
analyze the data, and make cross-organizational solutions that deliver
insightful information, to business teams, that drive informed
decision making.
Responsibilities:
This position is primarily responsible for overseeing the overall
design, development and communication of business analytics that
provide insight into the company's retail and operational
performance. This includes tracking, analyzing and reporting in
support of Merchandising, Finance, Operations, Website, Merchant and
Vendor to:
- Lead a team to develop complex predictive analysis that drives strategic, data-driven decision-making. Will specifically focus on top priorities, moving quickly to develop, test, communicate and implement solutions.
- Develop a strategy that will provide clear and insightful reports, analysis and recommendations to guide decision-making at both the strategic and tactical level for a variety of audiences with varying levels of statistical understanding.
- Build service oriented relationships across the organization. Facilitate the flow of dialogue between functional teams and BA to ensure all needs are understood and meet.
- Lead the BA focusing on process improvements optimizing the team's operational efficiency by implementing automated processes that allow the BA team to focus on the analytical results versus the compilation of data.
Proactively communicate team updates to ensure a systematic approach to allow information to flow to the right people, at the right time, in the right format at the right cost.
Competencies:
- Strategic Planning and Visionary: Requires a strong strategic and creative vision with the ability to turn the vision into reality.
- Systems Knowledge: Although the content and operations groups will be responsible for building the core operational processes and deploying technologies to capture the information, it is essential that this individual have in depth knowledge of data warehouses, complex systems and applications.
- Team Building: Ability to foster collaboration across the organization and use your team to address relevant issues where appropriate. Must be comfortable working in a matrixed organization which balances direct authority with reaching consensus; needs to be very effective listener.
- Retail: A strong online retail background is a plus for this position. Candidate would be responsible for insuring that reports are accurately delivered in a format that is directly usable by the business.
Education:
- Bachelors degree in Computer Science, Mathematics, Statistics, Economics or Finance. Advanced degree preferred.
Experience:
- Seven or more years experience leading a team with a strong knowledge of direct marketing and the analytics and reporting used to run an Online Retail business. Must have analytical experience working with a B2C environment.
This position is based in Amazon's corporate headquarters in Seattle, Washington and will require out-of-state candidates to relocate to the Seattle area.
