Gates Won't Fund AIDS Researchers Unless They Pool Data
Wall Street Journal, July 20, 2006 --
The Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation awarded $287
million in new AIDS-vaccine grants last week. The catch for
recipients, however, is they are required to share their findings
early on (e.g., prior to publication). The idea is that such pooling
of results could surmount hurdles that have hindered individual
research efforts--hopefully making an AIDS vaccine a reality that much
sooner. The Wall Street Journal (Subscription required).
