Pennsylvania hospital to implement data mining of infections

The Pennsylvania Health Care Cost Containment Council and the Highmark Foundation selected the Milton S. Hershey Medical Center to receive funding for new technology. The medical center will receive a $54,000 grant to implement MedMined’s Data Mining Surveillance service, which tracks and prevents infections acquired in hospitals. Hershey is one of 11 hospitals in Pennsylvania receiving funding. MedMined is a subsidiary of Cardinal Health and provides data-mining analysis and technical, clinical and financial-consulting services to health-care organizations. MedMined’s Data Mining Surveillance service is used by 195 hospitals in 26 states.
