Primary Job Responsibilities
The Pricing, Planning &
Programs team is responsible for all strategy and pricing decisions of
the North American eBay business. The team sets Pricing for the eBay
Marketplace, manages revenue-generating Features and Promotions, sets
and measures performance against Financial Targets, and leads
Strategic Planning for the Auctions business.
We are currently looking for a Manager, Planning & Pricing Analytics
to join the team. This individual will utilize their exceptional
strategy, pricing, and analytic skills to determine the optimal
pricing and monetization strategy for eBay North America. On a
day-to-day basis, this individual will conduct extensive pricing
analyses and evaluate various monetization scenarios to maximize
long-term revenue. During the annual strategic planning process, this
individual will deliver business and competitive insights and
recommendations to senior leadership, contributing to the strategic
direction of the Auctions business. In the process, this person will
develop a deep understanding of the Marketplaces businesses, further
strengthen their strategic, pricing and analytic skills, and gain
exposure to a wide variety of functional and business teams within
eBay.
Responsibilities:
Strategic Planning
- Conduct research into competitive marketplace dynamics, understanding performance, strategic direction and tactics employed by key competitors
- Understand consumer trends and consumer perceptions of eBay relative to competitors
- Identify key competitive strengths, weaknesses, threats and opportunities for eBay
- Partner with business leaders to develop the annual strategy recommendation for the Auctions business
Strategic Pricing
- Identify strategic opportunities for incremental monetization through pricing
- Identify strategic opportunities to effect behavioral change on eBay through pricing
- Evaluate Seller Economics to understand category-specific or seller-specific opportunities
- Creatively apply business judgment and analytic skills to formulate new pricing hypotheses
Pricing Analytics
- Conduct extensive analyses to evaluate expected impact of various pricing and monetization scenarios
- Evaluate large and complex data sets, and apply advanced quantitative and statistical approaches in scenario modeling
- Monitor and measure impact of pricing changes and institutionalize learnings
- Monitor and measure impact of price promotions to generate revenue and test pricing frameworks

The role is data and analytically intensive. Successful candidates
will offer a strategic perspective, sound business judgment, deep
analytical capabilities, and a collaborative working style. They will
possess strong intellectual curiosity, and a passion for achieving
practical business impact. Skills in problem definition, rigorous
analysis, and recommendation development will also be
critical. Successful candidates will have exceptional interpersonal
skills, initiative and integrity.
- Exceptional business judgment, data mining and quantitative analytic ability.
- Strong academic profile with an emphasis on quantitative coursework (e.g., degree in Mathematics/Statistics, Computer Science, Economics, Econometrics or Engineering).
- Expert Excel, Access and PowerPoint skills; experience with database query tools (e.g., SQL); and a basic understanding of data warehouse architecture are required. Proficiency with statistical analysis tools (e.g., SAS, SPSS) is a plus.
- Experience in pricing is preferred but not required.
- 5-7 years of experience, ideally at a leading management consulting firm, investment bank, or financial services company.
- Strong interpersonal skills including ability to present insights and recommendations persuasively. Skill and confidence in dealing with people at all levels of the organization are essential.
