Subject: Redmond, WA: Internet Marketing Database Analyst at Microsoft

Would you like to improve the experience of hundreds of millions of Internet users by providing actionable customer and market insights to product planners and product marketers? Do you enjoy working on a high-performance team providing research leadership to help solve the complex marketing and product challenges faced by Microsoft's On Line Services Group? If so, there is an exciting opening in the Data Sciences team for a Database Analyst.

The Database Analyst will perform standard SQL tasks including loading, archiving of data, and working with large click stream data sets from internal and external data sources. These data are complex data sets that show very detailed http traffic from individual computers and individual users of the Internet from third party and internal data sources, stripped completely of all Personally Identifiable Information (PII).

This person will spend great deal of time in writing scripts (SQL, perl etc) to convert unstructured data to well structured data. This person will have degrees in Computer Science and/or Math/Stats graduate and as such the person recruited will have opportunities to develop their skills in Statistical and Mathematical modeling.

Key Accountabilities

  1. Data Integrity
    • Take an active role in automating session analysis
    • Collect meta data for new data validation
    • Highlight any data integrity issues as they occur
  2. Data Modelling
    • Assist senior analyst in the throughput of modelling projects
    • Develop spreadsheets for Data Quality Audit for potential customer presentation
  3. Key Success Criteria
    • Success will be measured on achievement of key goals and projects being inline with agreed objectives and success metrics based on the accountabilities of the role.
    • Be an expert of click stream data management
    • Regular reporting of Database/ Server status and recommendations
    • Effective modeling projects deliverables
Knowledge, Skills and Experience
  1. Essential Experience
    • Expert in SQL Scripting and data manipulation language such as PERL.
    • Good team working and inter-personal skills
    • Presentation of complex technical topics to non-technical audiences
  2. Personal Attributes
    • Strategic Thinker -- able to consider the bigger picture
    • Self-starter who can manage multiple projects simultaneously & effectively drive them to completion under tight deadlines.
    • Results orientated - gets satisfaction from driving programs through execution to achieve & measure tangible results

Qualifications/Experience

  1. Computer Science and/or Mathematics/Statistics undergraduate degree, Masters Degree strongly preferred.
  2. 2-5 years minimum experience working with Internet data
  3. Excellent, advanced SQL and other data manipulation languages like PERL a must
  4. Advanced knowledge of data mining tools, SAS, SPSS and Excel also a big plus
  5. Knowledge of or experience with Nielsen Net Ratings and/or comScore data a big plus.
Special Requirements

Candidate must be willing to relocate to Redmond Washington
