Academic/Research

From: Edwin van den Oord
Date: 15 Mar 2007
Subject: Post-doc in machine learning, AI, and data mining at VCU

It has recently become possible to measure (hundreds of) thousands of genotypes, transcripts, proteins, and metabolites. Combined with environmental risk factors and clinical disease indicators, these high-dimensional biological investigations offer great promise to better understand common diseases and improve their treatment.

To develop novel methods for extracting meaningful information from these large data sets, we seek a candidate whose primary expertise is in machine learning, artificial intelligence, and data mining. A PhD. in Computer Science, Statistics, Operations Research, or a related field and strong programming skills in languages such as R, Perl, and C++ are required.

The post-doc will work at the new Center for Biomarker Research and Personalized Medicine (CBRPM directed by Dr. Edwin van den Oord) at Medical College of Virginia Commonwealth University (www.vcu.edu). Projects will be highly multidisciplinary and interactive involving other CBRPM members plus external collaborators. The position is initially for two years and offers ample opportunities for publishing articles and career development.
