Oracle unveils BI suite for small companies

Hoping to cash in on a wave of increased interest in business intelligence (BI) software, Oracle today released a new BI suite geared to smaller organizations.

The Redwood Shores, Calif.-based database and business applications goliath says the new Oracle Business Intelligence Standard Edition One is a fully integrated BI and data warehousing system that is pre-packaged and pre-configured to meet the needs of small to midsized organizations. The suite is available for deployments of five to 50 users at a price of $1,000 per named user.

The new suite comes at a time when interest in BI, or analytical, software is on the rise. Cambridge, Mass.-based Forrester Research Inc. forecasts that new spending on BI deployments will be one of the top priorities for enterprises this year. And, according to Framingham, Mass.-based analyst firm IDC, small and midsized businesses (SMBs) are more interested in BI than ever before.
