About the Job
This position is part of Applied Research team in the Trust and Safety organization at eBay. This is a unique opportunity to be part of a focused team of machine learning scientists and build the next generation data transformation / machine learning platform for Trust and Safety group. We are a small team with an ambitious and exciting plan. We work very closely with the business analysts and managers and apply advance machine learning techniques to solve Trust and Safety - fraud detection - business problems.
Primary Job Responsibilities
- Work with a cross functional team (engineering, applied research and analytics) and provide technology leadership to the team.
- Lead, design and develop the data transformations needed for producing machine learning data sets.
- Build, enhance and maintain various software components of the machine learning platform.
- Learn / understand the TnS business problems and design creative platform solutions to enable business managers and analysts to solve those.
- Design and build reports and tools to help the analysts and applied research scientists to be more productive.
This person will work very closely with the machine learning platform architect to fulfill the responsibilities outlined, on a day-to-day basis.
Job Requirements
- Experienced software / research / data engineer with expert level database (SQL, data modeling) and programming skills.
- Expert level programming skills with one scripting language like Perl / Python. Or expert level reporting / ETL experience (SAS / informatica / AbInitio etc.).
- Expert level programming experience with languages such as C/C++ or Java, working with large databases / files and in memory data structures.
- Large dataset experience preferably working with complex enterprise / web datasets.
- Understanding of machine learning / data mining / statistics is a plus but not required
- Experience with Abinitio is a big plus but not required.
- Need to be a team player with good cross functional / collaboration skills.
Basic Qualifications
- BS / MS in computer science or related field and 7 to 10 years of related programming experience. Or PhD in computer science with 3 to 5 years of hands on programming experience.
- Demonstrated ability to independently design / develop and test large and complex applications in a business environment is a must.
