Microsoft online services generate huge amount of data ranging from user interaction logs, web documents, user feedback, to system performance data. The data contains valuable information for building the #1 search engine to serve people�s information needs. The data is also critical for making appropriate business decisions. The main challenge is to effectively process the data, discover information and put it into action. We are developing advanced and practical data mining and machine learning techniques to derive information (such as: understanding user intent, discovering patterns to improve search relevance and result ranking, detecting and filtering bot traffic, spam, and noise, measuring relevance and user satisfaction quickly and effectively, identifying new information needs from end users, identifying weak points of the search system, discovering system performance problems, measuring/understanding the health of the online business, and many more). We also work on techniques to manage and process petabytes of data efficiently and effectively.

We are looking for talented software engineers to build automation that tests the BI pipelines of our data collection and analysis subsystems at various levels. The BI pipelines use Cosmos, a highly-scalable, highly-available distributed storage/processing infrastructure to collect massive data and in conjunction of SQL server and SQL reporting service to perform statistical analysis on the data and expose results to business teams and leadership teams. The job also requires to perform ah-hoc large dataset analysis.

You will be working on data pipelines that not only processes data quickly and reliably but is also able to scale up to handle some of the largest data sets on earth!

Qualification:

  1. MS or equivalent in a technical area, PhD is welcome to apply.
  2. Ability to function within startup-like environment and willingness to strike out into unexplored territories.
  3. Proactive and self-motivated.
  4. 5+ years of programming experience (C#, C++/C, High Level Language (Perl, Python, Ruby, etc.)
  5. Expertise in one of the following areas is required: (a) Machine learning, (b) Data mining, (c) Statistics or (d) Data warehousing.
