How Big Can You Think?

Do you want to help deliver the best search results to millions of users around the planet and make a direct impact to the bottom-line of a Fortune-500 company? Are you passionate about building products using a great combination of research skills and a just-get-it-done attitude?

As a Scientist in Sponsored Search, you will improve the relevance of our sponsored search products, working on challenging technical problems in a fast-paced environment.

Essential Responsibilities:

  • Apply statistical modeling/machine learning/data mining techniques to build models to improve search relevance, revenue, user experience and advertisers' ROI.
  • Deep dive into the data to understand and apply patterns, while maintaining a sense of the big picture.
  • Work closely with colleagues on the search engineering team to put your research results into action.
  • Provide thought leadership to guide the direction of Yahoo! Sponsored Search.
Requirements:
  • Strong background in machine learning, data mining, machine translation, computational linguistics, information retrieval, or speech recognition, including practical applications.
  • Solid statistical knowledge and intuition.
  • Experience in applying algorithms to web-scale data sets.
  • Fluency in Python, Perl, or another scripting language. Experience in C/C++.
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Ph.D. in engineering, computer science, statistics, mathematics, or equivalent.
  • Fluency in one or more major European or Asian languages a plus.
