Subject: Oak Ridge, TN: Postdoc Positions at ORNL

Two positions in this post:

  • Post Master's and Postdoctoral Research Associates in Distributed Climate Statistics, Hydrologic Modeling, and Earth Science Informatics
Postdoctoral Research Associates in Distributed Climate Statistics, Hydrologic Modeling, and Earth Science Informatics

Computational Sciences and Engineering Division Computing and Computational Sciences Directorate Oak Ridge National Laboratory Oak Ridge, Tennessee

ORNL08-95-CCSD

Project Description: The Computational Sciences and Engineering Division at the Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL) anticipates and invites applications for multiple, interdisciplinary positions at the postdoctoral level in the areas of distributed climate statistics, hydrologic modeling, and earth science informatics.

The position in distributed hydrologic modeling requires a strong background in surface hydrological processes, mathematical model development, as well as object-oriented and/or GIS based software coding. The position in climate statistics requires a background in climate and hydrologic sciences as well as in the data sciences (e.g., statistics, data mining and/or nonlinear dynamics, especially for time series and space-time data). The position in earth science informatics requires a background and interest in the climate or hydrologic sciences, as well as in the areas of management, analysis, mining, and visualization of geographic data.

Exceptional candidates in computer / computational sciences or statistics and data mining, with strong background and interdisciplinary expertise in data mining, nonlinear dynamics or geographic information systems, are encouraged to apply as long as there is demonstrable interest in the science of climate change or climate change impacts. Civil and environmental engineers with research focus in hydrology, hydro-meteorology or hydro-climate, with interests in climate change impacts, water resources, natural hazards, and infrastructural or societal risk analysis, are especially encouraged to apply. Interested applicants may contact Auroop Ganguly (gangulyar@ornl.gov) if there are specific questions about the position.

A detailed CV with complete list of publications and a few paragraphs describing prior research experience and future interests are required with the application. A copy of one or two (maximum) papers or manuscripts may be submitted.

Qualifications: This position requires a Ph.D. degree in earth or geosciences, computer sciences, or mathematics/statistics. Applicants cannot have received the most recent degree more than five years prior to the date of application and must complete all degree requirements before starting their appointment.
