FeaturesFrom: Richard PriceDate: 11 Aug 2008 Subject: academia.edu - what does it do? Academia.edu is a site that does 2 things: It displays academics from all over the world in a user-generated 'tree’ format, showing which academics work at which departments. Academics can sign up and create a profile, and track new papers and people in their field through the Academia.edu News Feed. Richard Dawkins, Noam Chomsky, and Stephen Hawking have profiles on Academia.edu. Steve Ballmer, CEO of Microsoft, has described the site as 'very cool’. Here is a sample profile: http://oxford.academia.edu/RichardPrice Hundreds of profiles are being added every day. Visit www.academia.edu and add yourself to your department. Then you can start uploading papers, and find other people in your research area.
