DIA Conference to Review Data Mining and Screening of Health-care Data

HORSHAM, Pa., Oct. 16, 2008--Join an international group of experts to discuss best practices for optimizing the screening of healthcare data at the Drug Information Association's (DIA's) (www.diahome.org)

Signal Detection and Data Mining: International Perspectives on Spontaneous Reports and Other Healthcare Data Sets , (November 19-20; Washington, DC).

Data mining and screening of spontaneous reports have become increasingly important. Screening of other data sets such as insurance data and electronic patient reports has received much attention. A recent invitation-only PhRMA-funded meeting assessed the role of standard methods in the screening of spontaneous reports. With the anticipated release of CIOMS VIII, this meeting will build on these major initiatives.

This conference review current state-of-the-art thinking on the future developments in data mining and signal detection, specifically:

  • CIOMS VIII
  • Analysis of spontaneous reports and other healthcare data with potential applicability to pharmacovigilance
  • Case studies in spontaneous reporting, difficult issues, and real-world implementation
Vendors with data sets that can be specifically used for data mining will be on hand to demonstrate their products and to tackle specific challenges presented from the podium by the speakers and program committee.
