A colleague is looking for a text-mining, SaaS utility (ideally) or a desktop software program that can be used to "dump" business documents and make sense of them. Examples are syndicated reports, slide decks, articles, etc.

In his role in product innovation / strategy, I often need to get a general sense of a topic and would like to reduce the time spent to do so. I have looked at Leximancer and at Megaputer. Both are quite good and quite expensive. Are there similar programs that would allow for text-mining, semantic analysis, entity extraction and perhaps NLP, sentiment analysis and rule-based tagging.
