The primary responsibility for this role is using data to help the business make better decisions in areas of marketing, CRM, customer retention, merchandising and pricing and strategic initiatives. The successful candidate will have strong consultative skills in addition to quantitative ability, and will be aware of the challenges of using statistics in a business setting, such as incomplete data, biased data, and large data sets. Requires being creative and resourceful in use of both traditional and newer statistical and data mining techniques. This is green fields opportunity to build something from the ground up and a chance to model a business that has not existed before.

Responsibilities

  • Use personalization techniques to drive business metrics, such as revenue through site and email channels.
  • Build models to predict milestone customer behaviors, acquisition, conversion, retention.
  • Ensure rigor in any testing program. Lead by example.
  • Model product price sensitivity.
  • Develop and articulate strategic recommendations based on rigorous data analysis
  • Discover and drive new opportunities to optimize the business.
  • In partnership with the Director, Business Intelligence identify opportunities to enrich our data to improve our modeling.
  • Partner with IT to implement models and tests
  • Hire and mentor a small team
Qualifications & Experience Requirements:
  • Experience with data mining in a marketing context, but not solely marketing. Breadth is appreciated.
  • Experience with statistical software, such as SPSS, S+, SAS, R. (Product not yet selected.)
  • Strong analytical and problem solving skills.
  • Experience with SQL, relational database design and methods for efficiently retrieving data from them.
  • 7-10 years professional experience.
  • Must be able to maintain a big picture perspective.
  • Must have entrepreneurial spirit and drive, thriving in a fast-paced environment within a rapidly growing industry.
  • Masters Degree in statistics, econometrics or related field. Ph.D. preferred.
  • Experience with survey a plus.
  • Fluent in a major programming language a plus.
