ICBR of The University of Florida (Gainesville) seeks a Postdoctoral Associate, to assist in performing computational sequence analysis by developing and implementing tools, maintaining databases, integrating tools and databases into our existing high-throughput data processing pipelines, and facilitating the display of results.

The major research focus is developing and applying DNA sequence analysis and statistical methodologies for projects utilizing next generation DNA sequencing platforms such as Roche / 454 Genome Sequencer FLX, Applied Biosystems SOLiD and Illumina Genome Analyzer and in particular methodologies and applications for metagenomic projects. Duties include performing timely and accurate sequence analysis; maintain, support, and document computational algorithms, code base, and data sets; support relational databases for storing primary data and secondary analysis results; work with ICBR clients to define and implement bioinformatics analysis tools; and provide routine bioinformatics services as requested. Time-limited; 1-year contract with possible 1-year extension depending upon performance and funding.

A Ph.D degree in computer science, electrical engineering, bioinformatics, or related field; excellent communication skills; ability to effectively work individually and as part of a team; strong background in statistical data analysis. Proficiency with some combination of the following programming languages is required: Perl, Java, C, and Matlab.

Experience managing large-scale data sets also desired. Biology background is a plus but not necessary. Demonstrated interest in bioinformatics and common bioinformatics tools is advantageous.
