Its main algorithm was presented as a plenary paper "Integrating Classification and Association Rule Mining" in the 4th International Conference on Knowledge Discovery and Data Mining (KDD-98), August 23-27, 1998, New York City, USA. The key feature of CBA is that it integrates or unifies classification and association rule mining. One central algorithm performs both tasks. CBA originally stands for Classification Based on Associations. However, it turns out that it is much more powerful than simply producing an accurate classifier for prediction. It can also be used to mine various forms of association rules using different data formats. It also helps to solve a number of problems with the existing classification techniques (e.g., decision tree, or neural networks, and many others). In summary, CBA has the following unique features: 1. Building accurate classifiers using relational tables (databases). 2. Building accurate classifiers using transactional data, where each data record has a variable number of items. 3. Perform cross validation of classifiers. 4. Mining association rules from relational data or transactional data, with a fix tartget or without a fixed target attributes. 5. Visualising discovered rules using a tree viewer.
