Date: Thu, 11 Feb 1999 18:07:19 +0200 From: Elias Kalapanidas ekalap@ee.upatras.gr Subject: CFP: Workshop on Intelligent Techniques for Spatio-Temporal Data Analysis in Environmental Applications ACAI99: MACHINE LEARNING AND APPLICATIONS, 5-16 July 1999, Chania, Greece Web: http://www.iit.demokritos.gr/skel/eetn/acai99 This workshop is concentrated on state-of-the-art intelligent techniques such as neural networks, fuzzy logic, genetic algorithms and decision trees, for spatial and temporal data analysis in the context of environmental problem solving. Spatial and/or temporal data analysis can be applied to environmental data of various complex real-world problems involving for instance large multisource temporal databases that may include remotely sensed data (e.g. multispectral satellite images, airborne data), grid data and point/local measurements. Efficient techniques used for the analysis of such data are of great value in many environmental problems as for environmental prevention, monitoring and assessment of natural disasters. Original, high-quality contributions are invited to be presented and discussed during this research meeting. Topics of interest include (but not restricted): * Extraction of information from spatio-temporal databases using: Neural Networks, Fuzzy Systems, Genetic Algorithms, Decision Trees, Machine Learning, Advanced Pattern Recognition/Image Processing Techniques, Advanced Forecasting Techniques, AI and Expert Systems * Environmental application areas: Pollution (aerial, water, ground), Land Surface Monitoring (e.g. land-use, forest fires, desertification), Ecosystems, Waste Control (e.g. oil spills), Sea Surface, Sea Ice, Ocean Winds, Meteorology, etc. Organizing Committee: Prof. Nikolaos M. Avouris, Prof. Jon Atli Benediktsson, Prof. Horst Bischof, Mr. Elias Kalapanidas, Dr. Stavros Perantonis, Prof. Ioannis Pitas, Dr. Nikolaos Vassilas. Interested authors are requested to submit a paper, of no more than 10 pages, before *** 15 March 1999 *** Authors of accepted papers will be asked to provide a camera-ready version of their paper before 10 April 1999. The Workshop Proceedings will be published as a technical report in collaboration with the ACAI-99 organization committee.
