These areas are expanding very rapidly, with growing impact in marketing, finance, decision support, industry, etc. EKDB-99 is a follow-up of EKDB-97 http://www.ncc.up.pt/pbrazdil/ekdb.html, which was held in Coimbra, and served as an excellent forum for research in KDD. The 99 edition also intends to serve as a meeting-point for the researchers and professionals working in the areas of KDD, Data Mining, Data Analysis, Datawarehousing, Database Marketing and Decision Support as happened in the EAIA-98 http://www.di.fct.unl.pt/eaia98 KDD Summer school in Caminha. The objective of the workshop is to discuss methods for non-trivial extraction of information which is implicit in the existing data and which can be represented in a high-level language so as to facilitate interpretation.
