From: Dennis Egan egan@research.bellcore.com
Subject: Morristown, NJ: Director, Data Mining Research, Telcordia (formerly Bellcore)

The Information and Computer Sciences Research Laboratory of Telcordia
Technologies (formerly Bellcore) is seeking to expand its statistics
and data mining research group to include applied research on novel and
insightful ways to extract value from Web-based data. This new kind of
data is becoming available as people seek information, order products,
provision their own services, and interact with customer service centers
on the Web. Telcordia Technolgies seeks a director-level scientist to
recruit group members, direct technical work, and manage interactions
with internal customers and external customers for the research. While
the director is expected to develop a specific research agenda, the
general areas of work include all aspects of data mining, data
analysis, data warehousing, and decision support services. The group's
charter includes novel approaches to data collection, data extraction,
data cleaning and validation, data modeling, data warehousing, data
analysis, and data visualization. The ultimate goal of the work is to
improve marketing, sales, customer service and engineering functions in
communications companies and other vertical industries. Of particular
interest is research that leads to insightful ways to combine the new
Web-based data with "legacy" data collected in communications systems
and networks.

The Information and Computer Sciences Research Laboratory is located at
Telcordia Technogies' corporate headquarters in Morristown, a suburban
New Jersey location within easy reach of New York City and several major
universities. The Laboratory consists of approximately 140 researchers,
a majority of whom hold advanced degrees in computer science and related
disciplines including statistics, behavioral science, operations
research, and mathematics. Collegial interdisciplinary interaction
within the Laboratory and with university groups is strongly encouraged,
as is interaction with Bellcore business units. The Laboratory provides
an unusual opportunity for people attracted to work on technically
demanding problems whose solutions have direct, real-world application.

Candidates should have a strong record of technical accomplishments as
evidenced by publications, leadership in technical and academic
communities, and research management. The candidate will be expected
to articulate a research vision, structure a research program, and
recruit additional junior-level and senior-level researchers.

Telcordia Technologies is a leading provider of software products,
professional services, training, and applied research to the
communications industry. Telcordia Technologies has approximately 6,000
employees located primarily on several campuses in New Jersey.
