HELP SOLVE THE GREATEST OPEN CHALLENGE IN BIOLOGY
SCIENTIFIC KNOWLEDGE DISCOVERY
The University of Wales
We have a new open research associate position on The Robot Scientist
Project. The aim of this project is to integrate machine learning with
scientific robotics to produce the first closed loop scientific
discovery system. The application area will be to help analyse the
flood of data coming from new biological techniques which allow the
complete internal inventories of the working parts of cells to be
examined. Analysing this data is the greatest open challenge in
biology.
We are especially intested in candidates with a knowledge of ILP and
an interest in interdisciplinary work.
The Computational Biology group of the Department of Computer Science,
University of Wales, Aberystwyth is a World leader in the application
of Knowledge Discovery techniques to scientific problems. The
research will be done in collaboration with Professor D. Kell
(Institute of Biological Sciences), Professor S. Muggleton (University
of York), Professor S. Oliver (Univesity of Manchester), and Glaxo
Wellcome.
The appointments will be for a fixed term of three years on Grade 1A.
