Explorations in Data Mining for Computational Finance
A half-day tutorial
Muenster (Germany) 18 December 1999
Registration and Information: info@ikdi.com.au

This tutorial offers an introduction to data mining and knowledge
discovery in databases for computational finance. Data mining is the
step-wise process of automating knowledge extraction from
databases. The objective is to find comprehensible rules and relations
in datasets. Often these rules are abstractions and require the
application of various machine learning techniques including
artificial neural networks (ANNs). This tutorial will focus on machine
learning and artificial neural network techniques for the extraction
of knowledge from large financial databases. The presentation will
include a discussion of case studies and a demonstration of data
mining tools.
