NewsDate: Oct 16, 2001 Subject: Interview with Jim Goodnight, SAS CEO
SearchCRM has recently published an interview with Jim Goodnight,
SAS's CEO and co-founder. Some interesting quotes --
Goodnight says:
"The term analytics is so overused. It's calling any software that
refers to the customer CRM. What most companies are calling analytics
(technology) is really just queries.
If somebody says they do analytics, ask them this: can they produce
for every customer a probability between 0 and 1 of whether they're
still going to be a customer a year from now? Can they do
probabilistic model? Can they do statistical regression?
There are a lot of players trying to play in this space. The problem
is that none of them ever made any money. They were supported by
venture capitalists and IPOs. They lost a lot of money because
investors were never told there was an 800-pound gorilla in this
market, which is SAS."
Dr. Goodnight also talks about SAS vs Siebel, IntelliVisor ASP service
for retailers, Intrinsic acquisition and more.
