The 2002 International Conference on Data Engineering will be held at the Fairmont Hotel in San Jose, California.

ICDE 2002 continues the tradition of the previous ICDE conferences, presenting innovative research results and applications of data engineering and promoting the exchange of data management technologies and experience among researchers and practicing engineers.

This year's technical program includes three keynote talks by

• Nora Danzel, HP
• Dale Skeen, Vitria Technologies
• Hector Garcia-Molina, Stanford University

Data, Text and Web Mining, Semistructured Data, Metadata and XML, WWW and Databases, Data Warehousing and OLAP, Heterogeneous, Distributed and Parallel Databases, Middleware and Metadata, Query Processing and Optimization, Temporal and Spatial Databases.

Seven Industrial sessions, two panel discussions, a poster session, and six demos & industrial exhibits sessions.

In order to better meet its mission, this year ICDE introduces as part of the technical program four Advanced Technology Seminars focusing on state-of-the-art data engineering technologies:

• P2P information systems,
• Techniques for Storing XML,
• Database replication for the mobile era,
• Bioinformatics databases
