Subject: INTEXT text analysis software is now public domain

Social Science Consulting now declares INTEXT text analysis software as a public domain product. More information is provided at http://www.intext.de. Manuals in English and German are available as PDF-files also. INTEXT comes as it is (version 4.1, the last one published 1998), no guarentee or warranty is given.

INTEXT is an MS-DOS based program that was originally developed for computer aided content analysis and applications like coding responses to open ended questions, analyses of mass media texts, personal ads etc. It can produce word lists, KWICs (key-word-in-context), indices. The most powerful types of analyses however are content analysis and readability analysis.

The content analysis module has features like interactive coding of ambiguous search patterns, negation detection (language independent and programmable), and test of the category system whether search patterns occur multiple times or are part of another. You will find much more details on the web site above.

The readability analysis module computes 8 formulas (6 for English, 2 for German), e.g. Flesch's REI (reading ease index).

The windows version of INTEXT is called TextQuest (http://www.textquest.de), both programs are file compatible. If you are interested in readability analyses, TextQuest computes 60 formulas for 7 languages.
