Subject: Poll Results: European/Asian data miners median income 50K

The previous KDnuggets poll asked European/Asian/Pacific Rim Data Miners (about 1/3 of KDnuggets subscribers), what is their annual income (in US$) or status. Based on 151 votes, the results are:

27% - student
4% - unemployed
9% - $20,000 or less
16% - 21 to 40
20% - 41 to 60
8% - 61 to 80
7% - 81 to 100
9% - over 100

The median income can be estimated as $50,000, about the same as in 2002.

Comparing to the 2002 Europe/Asia data miners income poll, we can see some recession effects:

  • Pct with incomes between $61,000 and 100,000 has declined significantly, from 25% to 15%
  • Pct unemployed went up from 1% to 4%
  • Pct students increased slightly, from 23% to 27%

Surprisingly, percent reporting very high income (over 100,000) has increased significantly, but we don't know if this is indeed the case.

The European/Asian incomes are still significantly less than 2003 US data miners income, who had a median income of $88,000.
