Subject: Chicago, IL or Northern New Jersey: Statistical/Optimization Research Software Developer at Ornarose, Inc.
Ornarose Inc. wishes to contract with one or two Research Software
Developers based in the Chicago (Illinois) or Northern New Jersey area.
This is a medium-term project (3 to 4 month) with an SBIR-supported startup
company. Developer(s) will be responsible for implementation and testing of
algorithms for fitting and applying novel statistical models. Work also
includes data set cleanup, experimentation, and measuring resource demands
of algorithms.
Requirements:
Ideally, we seek one highly skilled developer to satisfy both the
following sets of requirements, but we are open to contracting with
two people:
- Position 1: B.S. or advanced degree in computer science,
operations research, statistics, or related field. Strong understanding
of numerical optimization techniques, with 2+ years software
development experience in this area.
- Position 2: M.S. or advanced degree in statistics, or
equivalent knowledge of the major principles and modeling techniques
used by statisticians. 2+ years software development experience in
statistics, machine learning, data mining, or related technology.
Remaining requirements apply to both positions:
- 5+ years professional software development experience,
- Experience with designing and running large computational
experiments, ideally in machine learning, statistics, or data mining,
is highly desirable. Experience with text processing and/or
combinatorial/mixed optimization is also of interest.
- Proficiency in C. C++ and Perl proficiency is desirable.
- Experience with Unix/Linux is desirable.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills in
English. Demonstrated ability to meet deadlines and communicate
effectively when working from home. Able to meet weekly with project
manager in one of Northern New Jersey or Chicago, IL.
