Subject: Poll results: Outsourcing is not widespread

A growing trend in the US and other high-labor-cost countries is outsourcing business services to other places (such as India, Eastern Europe) with lower labor costs.

The previous KDnuggets poll asked: Your involvement with outsourcing data mining services off-shore?

Only 77 people voted, and based on the answers, outsourcing of data mining services is not (yet) widespread, but with a number considering outsourcing being higher than the number currently outsourcing, the trend is going towards outsourcing. It is also interesting to note that more people indicated that they provide outsourcing in India/Russia/E. Europe, than the numbrrt of people who are currently outsourcing.

The results:

  • Not outsourcing, 69%
  • In US/Europe, Considering outsourcing, 7%
  • In US/Europe, Currently outsourcing, 4%
  • In India, providing outsourcing, 12%
  • In Russia/E. Europe, providing outsourcing, 6%
  • Elsewhere, providing outsourcing, 3%
