We are looking for a talented, self motivated individual to lead the relevance data analyst team for MSN Search.

MSN Search is the #2 search engine in terms of users (with over 30M unique users) in the US today and is usually positioned in the top 3 in various markets worldwide. MSN Search is also a very significant business for Microsoft with hundreds of millions of dollars in revenue today and the growth potential to become the next billion dollar business in the near future. We are investing in a very significant way to achieve this potential. We have a brand new organization, entirely dedicated to Internet Search, building breakthrough technology right now.

Position Scope: the successful candidate lead a team of data analysts focused on improving the relevance and usefulness of MSN Search, focusing on creating, validating and driving improvements in the data and understanding Microsoft�s search engine is improved from and measured by. The position includes management of a team, internal and external partnerships, and working with experts from the team and Microsoft Research.

Specific Responsibilities: design relevance methodology; manage schedules of internal and external teams, drive analysis and interpretation of complex search data worldwide; communicate issues, findings, and status to management; define data needed for search system improvements such as taxonomies, exception handling, and tuning.

Qualifications: strong foundation and track record in research design including qualitative and quantitative methods; building and maintaining effective relationships with a diverse staff of full time employees and outside vendors; contributing to the strategic direction of MSN Search; budget forecasting and adherence; understanding of relevance and user quality metrics, methodology, and validation of findings; excellent communication skills at all levels of detail; basic data mining (i.e. SQL, database) and analysis experience; ability to prioritize investigations on maximum user benefit; drive for results; strong customer focus.

Experience in search engines or internet-scale web service is highly desirable. An advanced degree in library science or related discipline is strongly preferred. 5+ years of experience in industry and 3+ years managing data creation and analysis is strongly desired.
