From: Steve Aeby
Date: 18 Mar 2005
Subject: San Francisco, CA: Pattern Recognition Scientist II or Statistical Scientist II, Informatics at Predicant

Predicant believes that the rapid analysis of the detailed composition of blood and other biological fluids will revolutionize biomedical research. We will implement a new class of diagnostics based on the identification of predictive proteomic patterns for specific biological states. To this end, we are developing proprietary separation, detection, and informatics technologies to define those distinct biological states. We are looking for highly motivated and talented individuals to contribute to our success.

We have an opening for a Pattern Recognition or a Statistical Scientist. In this position, you will analyze mass spectrometry data from clinical studies to find and validate biomarkers using statistical and pattern recognition tools. The Scientist will also be responsible for contributing to the research and development of such tools, as well as other tools including those for feature estimation and selection and QC of complex mass spectrometry datasets. Other responsibilities will include study and experiment design, writing reports, and working with scientists to develop tools for data analysis.

Requirements

This position requires a Ph.D. in computer science, statistics or a related field and demonstrated experience and skills in analysis of biological data, including:

  • 5+ years industry experience with:
  • pattern recognition and/or statistical analysis of biological datasets, in which the number of features dramatically outnumbers the number of samples in which those features are measured;
  • research and development of pattern recognition/statistical tools;
  • software like Matlab or R/S+;
  • programming in Perl and C/C++;
  • Experience with LINUX and Windows platforms;
  • Experience presenting analysis results;
  • Ability to work independently and take projects from start to finish;
