Subject: San Jose, CA: Quantitative Analyst, Global Rules at eBay
Primary Job Responsibilities:
The Quantitative Analyst, Global Rules will ensure the quality of
computational rules used to monitor and control activity on eBay�s
website. Trust & Safety computational rules have a large impact on
eBay�s site safety, operational cost, and overall marketplace
efficiency, and therefore this role offers a unique opportunity to
positively impact eBay. This is a relatively new role with significant
opportunities to define and improve the processes and tools needed for
success.
Summary of responsibilities:
1. Detect and investigate
software bugs, rule errors, and operational issues that could
negatively impact site safety or marketplace efficiency
2. Generate reports using SAS that help detect deviations in normal rule behavior
3. Based on a deep understanding of the rules, review reports and
perform ad-hoc analysis in SAS to determine whether rules are
performing optimally
4. Drive issues to a resolution working
cross-functionally with rule authors, engineering and operations teams
5. Manage change control process with rule authors
6. Run processes of
reviewing, testing, deploying, and monitoring rule changes working
closely with Operations, QA, and engineering teams
7. Identify new
tools and software needed to better ensure rule quality. Work with
engineering teams to specify and implement these tools
Job Requirements:
Bachelor�s degree (masters a plus) in Mathematics/Statistics,
Engineering, or Economics/Finance and 3+ years experience in
quantitative analysis.
2+ years of SAS experience in reporting and
statistical analysis, plus solid statistical skills for detecting
trends and irregularities in a noisy data environment. Additional
programming experience a plus.
Candidate must show the ability to work
cross-functionally to investigate and drive issues to resolution, and
to define and implement new processes and tools.
Additionally, the
candidate must demonstrate high energy/creativity, a passion for
analyzing highly complex data sets, strong communication and project
management skills, strong debugging skills, an entrepreneurial spirit,
and superb attention to detail.
