Primary Job Responsibilities
The Quantitative Analystics Manager will report to the Director of the Cross-Channel Analytics group. The major functions of the Cross-Channel Analytics team include the following: identification of the financial impact of all major marketing channels, characterizing the influence of marketing expenditures on resultant revenue payoffs, recognizing and redeploying suitable methodologies for the decomposition of multiple marketing channels into optimizable components, creation of the relevant analytical and statistical tools, and the evaluation of competing approaches in the context of real business situations.

The success of these efforts will permit a fuller understanding of all discretionary marketing drivers of activity on the eBay website and the concomitant performance of the eBay business. The successful candidate for this role will employ a broad range of quantitative techniques - data programming as well as statistical methods and mathematical models - on a wide range of quantitative projects guided by the strategic roadmap.

The quantitative analyst's primary tasks will be:

o Understanding the broad elements of eBay's Marketplaces business, paying particular attention to the objectives and operational details of the entire set of Marketing channels

o Working with marketing teams - managers and analysts to identify the "as is" processes at work in the eBay business domain and devise suitable quantitative models that will deliver clarity of understanding, permit valid inferences, and have functional predictive capability.

o Continuously monitor the instances where selected quantitative modeling tools and statistical data analysis methodologies can contribute effectively to answering significant business questions.

o Assist in devising an appropriate process for defensible and transparent accreditation of relevant drivers to the causal channels that contributed to the observed business outcomes - both financial and operational.

o Evangelizing new methods to the business users regarding quantitative analysis methods and providing a general consulting/support function to the various marketing units.

o Creating any required reporting and communication tools that can be used across the company to deliver business inferences that support actionable planning.

Major Day-to-Day Responsibilities

1. Cross-functional liaison - Build and maintain strong relationships around the company with internal customers and marketing functions. The quantitative analyst will work as part of the Cross-Channel Analytics team with Finance and Business Units to identify and prioritize statistical or analytical needs and modeling opportunities, and devise suitable reporting solutions.

2. Situational Framing: Contribute to the conceptual framing of the analytical issues in multiple marketing channels revenue accreditation and optimization. The newly formed team is expected to deliver novel and imaginative solutions to thoroughly analyze and incrementally optimize critical business functions

3. Formal technical analysis - Execute sophisticated quantitative analyses and advanced modeling that use eBay's data and business performance to derive inferences and insights. This role requires a very strong proficiency in and experience of in one or more quantitative disciplines such as statistics, econometrics, applied mathematics, quantitative methods, research methodology, financial engineering, etc.

4. Strong presentation skills (oral and written) - The analyst will be required to present to internal customers primarily. This requires that the analyst have excellent communication skills and the ability to translate complex quantitative information into presentations that are easily understood by general management and the broad business audience with a variety of interests and experience.

Job Requirements:

Master's degree (or equivalent advanced certification) or highly specialized quantitative MBA in quantitative methods. A minimum of 5 years' work experience in a relevant area, such as the Statistics, Econometrics, Financial Engineering, or Quantitative Research fields.

Advanced expertise using statistical analysis tools such as SAS, SPSS, or S-PLUS are preferred. Familiarity with data management and related applications such as the following are desirable: Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Access, SQL, and VBA.

Demonstrated ability to produce complex analyses on a rigorous schedule. Strong written and verbal communications skills and the ability to present to large multi-disciplinary audiences on a regular basis.

High energy and creativity, a clear customer-focus, an entrepreneurial approach, and comprehensive understanding of quantitative methods, together with superb attention to detail.

Ability to participate collaborative in a small but growing team, work independently within clear strategic guidelines and drive for efficient actionable results.

Doctorate Degree or Equivalent
